I'm so glad you spoke to him like that! Yesterday a man came to the counter and just snarled 'Don't you have a classics section?' I was so tempted to ask why he spoke to me like that when he could just have asked me civily. (We do of course.) Maybe I should have said it. Or just matched his tone with 'Of course.' I dunno - makes me so angry sometimes.

To answer your question, OH YES. There are certain things at work - for example, the overwhelming emphasis on producing statistics that look good to the public regardless of whether or not they really mean anything - that make me furious if I think about them for very long. Most of the time I just make myself focus on my own job, which I like, and ignore the situations that irritate me. I think that kind of thing is probably part of any job, though...

I'm on my second career and there are jerks everywhere. I first worked 18 years as an arts administrator for several theatre companies. Believe it or not, some of the biggest complaints and problems I dealt with were about people's seats in the theatre. I now do computer support at a university. Again a bunch of whining people who want to take their frustrations out on another person.
